The Advantages of PCP Engineering
Pre-charged pneumatic air rifles represent the pinnacle of modern airgun engineering and are the preferred choice for shooters who demand the highest levels of accuracy and consistency. Unlike traditional spring-powered models, a PCP rifle utilises a high-pressure air cylinder to propel the pellet, resulting in a completely recoilless firing cycle. This lack of movement during the shot makes it much easier to achieve tight groups at longer ranges, whether you are a competitive target shooter or a dedicated hunter. Most of the rifles in our collection at Huntsman Sports feature multi-shot magazines and smooth side-lever or bolt actions, allowing for quick follow-up shots without the need to break the barrel or reset a heavy spring between every trigger pull.
Choosing the Right Calibre and Power
When selecting a rifle, it is important to consider your primary use, as the choice between .177 and .22 calibre can significantly impact your experience. The .177 calibre is generally favoured for its flatter trajectory, making it the standard for target shooting and Field Target disciplines where precision is paramount. Conversely, the .22 calibre is a classic choice for pest control, as the heavier pellet carries more kinetic energy downrange for a humane dispatch. All the rifles we supply are tuned to operate within the UK legal limit of 12 ft-lbs, ensuring they are suitable for use without a firearms certificate while still providing ample power for both sport and utility.
Charging Methods and Consistency
To keep your PCP rifle operational, you will also need to consider your charging method. You can choose from manual stirrup pumps, which offer great portability and a bit of a workout, or high-pressure air cylinders and portable compressors for a faster and more effortless refill. Many of our premium models also include internal regulators, which manage the air pressure to ensure that every shot is fired with the exact same velocity from the first fill until the tank runs low. At Huntsman Sports, we are dedicated to helping you find the perfect setup for your needs, so if you require any advice on compatibility or performance, our team is always on hand to provide expert guidance.
